Learn a new set list without the panic: study sets
October 17, 2026 · 2 min read
The band just sent you twelve new songs for next month. Where do you start? A study set turns that list into a plan you can work through, one song at a time.
Make a study set
Open any song. In the Song details panel on the right, find Study:
- Pick New study set… from the list and give it a name, like "Learn for the Legion, Nov 14".
- Click Add to study set.
Now open the next song and add it to the same set. Your study sets live under Study in the left menu.
Work through it, one song at a time
Open the study set and press the first song. You're now in study mode:
- ← Previous and Next → step through the set in order.
- Progress lets you mark each song New, Learning or Got it.
- The study set page shows where you are at a glance, and jumps you to the next song that isn't "Got it" yet.
Keep the learning tools with the song
In each song's Song details panel, add:
- The original on YouTube, to listen while you read.
- Tutorials, up to five, for the tricky intro or the solo.
- Backing tracks, up to five, to play along with once you know the changes.
They show as tidy YouTube rows right next to the chart, so you're not hunting through browser tabs.
Use all three views
While learning, flip between Chart, Tab and Arrangement (Part 3). Many players learn the arrangement first, the road map of the song, then the chords, then the riffs.
A simple weekly routine
- Monday: listen through the whole set with the original links. Mark anything you already know as Got it.
- Midweek: take two or three Learning songs a night. Tutorial first, then backing track.
- Weekend: run the whole set in order in study mode, with backing tracks, as if it were the gig.
By rehearsal, your list is mostly green.
In Part 5 we turn songs into a show: building your first gig.
